JNU Students Union elections on Nov 3

Elections to the students union in Jawaharlal Nehru University will be held on November 3, the Election Committee said on Monday.

Elections to the students union in Jawaharlal Nehru University JNU will be held on November 3, the Election Committee said on Monday.

The JNUSU Election Committee issued a notification to this effect.

8220;Councillors to different schools and two student representatives to Gender Sensitisation Committee Against Sexual Harassment GSCASH will also be elected on the same date,8221; Chairperson of Election Committee Sarada Prasanna Das said.

The Election Committee issued the notification after consultations with representatives of different student organisations and independent candidates.

8220;Nominations will be received on October 16 and 17 and they can be withdrawn on October 19. Final list of candidates will be displayed the next day,8221; said Prasanna.

The Presidential debate will be held on November one. Elections will take place on November three while results will be declared on November 5.

Earlier, the outgoing JNUSU was dissolved and it handed over charge to 28-member Election Committee, which comprises student representatives from different schools.

The Election Committee is responsible for conducting free and fair elections in JNU and it has to hand over the charge to the new union within 28 days of taking over from outgoing one, according to the JNUSU constitution.
