KHARAR, Nov 18: Four jhuggis were gutted in the fire which broke out in the Kharar Textile Mills Colony here last night. Sources said household articles worth thousands in the jhuggis of mill workers Jai Narayan and Ram Sagar were completely destroyed while jhuggis of two other mill workers were partially gutted. Timely action of the jhuggi dwellers averted a major loss. However, no loss of life was reported. The jhuggi-dwellers have sought compensation from the mill management.

Traffic blocked: In order to protest the indifferent attitude of the concerned authorities over work on the Kharar-Banur road, the residents of Ward No 5 and 6 residing on both sides of this road, staged a massive dharna today and blocked traffic for about an hour in the afternoon. The protesters raised slogans and did not allow traffic to ply.

It was at around 1 p.m. that Kharar SDM Avtar Chand Sharma reached the site and assured the protesters that work on the road would start from tomorrow following which the dharna was lifted and traffic resumed. The protesters have threatened to resume the agitation if the work failed to commence tomorrow.
