Jet spreads wings to Kargil

This activity titled K3 Kaksar-Kargil-Kashmir programme of quot;save the childrenquot; will be implemented in phases as a village empowerment programme to help villagers expand their knowledge base, acquire essential skills and progress towards self reliance as individuals and community groups. The Magic Box, the in-flight collection programme of Jet Airways was launched on January 7, 1997 and has since raised a crore of rupees for the activities of Save the Children programme.

Jet Airways also flew more than 2,000 km of material which included blankets and clothes for the use of affected people ofKaksar. Some of the significant projects run by the Save the Children programme, include preschools for the urban slum children in Mumbai, a special care centre for the mentally retarded and hearing impaired and integrated development services for the Osmanabad earthquake victims.

The funds collected by Jet Airways through the Magic Box initiative also contributed in the running of the SPARSH Sastur Project of Action Research Services through the Hospital which provides integrated, preventive, curative and rehabilitative health services to the villagers of earthquake victims of Latur district. Another unique project of Save the Children is to re spond and build confidence among pregnant women who are HIV positive with a view to decreasing the infant mortality rate among the new born of HIV positive mothers.
