With the Jan Shatabdi drawing a good response from passengers with its changed schedule, from July 1 earlier this year, it appears the load has been taken off from the Shatabdi Express. The train, now running on all the days, has seen a spurt in the number of passengers, particularly on weekends.
Having been extended to Nangal, the train provides a direct link between Chandigarh and Anandpur Sahib, and benefits passengers from Morinda, Kurali, Kharar and Mohali.
8220;Though initially, the response to the change in timings was lukewarm but soon the train has picked up on popularity. The occupancy has now increased significantly from Nangal as well as Chandigarh,8221; says R K Saxena, additional divisional rail manager.
A senior official at the railway station said that nearly 100 passengers arrive daily by the train from Nangal and Ropar adding that during the last ten days, the New Delhi-bound train from Chandigarh has been leaving completely booked.
Saxena said that owing to the demand and requirement, the change in the starting station as well as timings was implemented.
Vikas Jain, a passenger said: 8220;On days of heavy rush, especially the weekends, it is very difficult to get reservation in the Kalka Shatabdi. I prefer travelling by the Jan Shatabdi as the fare is less.8221;
