
Political circles in the Pakistani capital were on Thursday abuzz with reports that President Pervez Musharraf might opt to step down in the wake of a meeting with the Army Chief though the Presidency said he had no plans to quit. Adding to the speculation, Musharraf8217;s protege Brig Asim Bajwa, the top officer of the Army8217;s 111 Brigade, was replaced. But a military spokesman said this was part of routine transfers and postings. Brigadier Faheem Rao will now head the brigade responsible for the security of the President as well as the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi.
