PUNE, Aug 17: Clearing the road and pavements from encroachment, merging the transport services in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad municipal areas and constructing an international airport were among various suggestions made by a delegation of citizens led by Mohan Dharia, President of the Vanarai during a meeting with Rajiv Agarwal, Divisional Commissioner.

Pointing out the serious nature of the city8217;s traffic problem, the delegation suggested the widening of important road and clearing the encroachment to facilitate parking.

Steps should be taken to ensure that the space reserved for parking was not misused for other purposes, the delegation suggested. They, also, pointed out the necessity of the light ring rail project which would ease the traffic congestion. Another suggestion pertained to the merger of the Pune Municipal Transport with the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Transport while the delegation also stressed the need for the effective disposal of garbage by using modern and technological methods. The road width and flow of traffic should be considered while preparing the new Development Plan and granting building permissions. The delegation also suggested the creation of an international airport.
