
The fight against inflation has entered the kitchens of Chennai eateries. In an extraordinary measure, apparently to control inflation, the state Government has asked hotels and restaurants to reduce rates of food items like dosa, idli and vada or face the music.
At a meeting with the representatives of Hotel Owners’ Association here on Saturday, Food Minister AV Velu said prices should be lowered, considering the hardships faced by the lower section of society like daily wage labourers, as well as tourists visiting the state, said an official statement from the department.
“The poor should not be affected by the prices of food material,” the minister was quoted as saying in the statement.
