Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president Jagmohan Dalmiya on Sunday confirmed an annual match between Indian and Pakistani domestic first-class champions.

As was first reported in The Indian Express, the proposal to play the match between the champions of India’s Ranji Trophy and Pakistan’s Quaid-e-Azam Trophy was mooted by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Shahryar Khan. Incidentally, when originally asked to confirm about the match by this paper a few days back, Dalmiya had feigned ignorance.

On the sidelines of an Asian Cricket Council executive committee meeting though, Dalmiya informed about this ‘‘important understanding’’. ‘‘We haven’t really decided what would be the format but there has been a general understanding that the top teams of India and Pakistan will meet each other every year,’’ Dalmiya said.
