BANGALORE, DECEMBER 23: Three weeks have lapsed since Dada Phalke Award winner and Kannada matinee idol Dr Rajkumar faced inconvenience’ at the hands of an Indian Airlines staff, but the IA has yet to officially’ identify the staffer.
On the contrary, the airline promoted the Manager (Commercial), who was on duty at the airport on the day of the incident, as IA Station Manager, Thiruvanantapuram.
On November 28, Dr Rajkumar and his accompanying film crew were prevented from boarding IA flight to Delhi despite holding confirmed tickets. He and his crew members were on their way to Kulu to shoot for his film Shabdhavedi.
However, Dr Rajkumar and his film director were accommodated after exchange of heated arguments between the fans, who had gathered by than, and the airline staff. The trouble didn’t end here. On his return flight from Delhi, Dr Rajkumar again had trouble boarding the plane as the airline staff at Bangalore had removed the flight coupon from his ticket.
This incident came to light because the passenger involved was a known personality. But every day, scores of such incidents take place where the common man has to make do with the indifferent attitude and the rude behaviour of the airline staff.
Interestingly, a week after the Dr Rajkumar incident, IA regional director (South) T S Chandrasekhar, who was in Bangalore, admitted to the lapse on the part of the staff and assured severe action against those responsible for the incident within two days. "Being in the service sector, we have to make our staff accountable for any lapse. Customer service is most important for us especially at a time when we are facing a stiff competition from private airlines," he said.
