The Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research IGCAR has processed spent fast breeder test reactor FBTR plutonium-rich carbide fuel for generating nuclear power. The plutonium-rich carbide fuel, after high burn-ups, has been reprocessed for the first time in the world, Dr Anil Kakodkar, chairman, Atomic Energy Commission and secretary, Department of Atomic Energy told reporters.

IA gets first woman officiating CMD

New Delhi:

Sushma Chawla, deputy managing director of Indian Airlines, will on Sunday take over as the first woman CMD of the airlines, though in the officiating capacity. She would replace Sunil Arora. Chawla, a post-graduate from Delhi School of Economics, joined IA as a management trainee in 1971. She became the first woman director in 1996. She also worked as regional director of IA in the northern region and then rose to become director finance.

Life term for murder

Sessions court at Khetari near here granted life imprisonment to four persons convicted in the case of murder of a local Congress leader8217;s son, Om Prakash, during panchayat polls three years ago.

Raids at bookie house

Ahmedabad

: The police on Saturday raided the Rajkot house of Gujarat-based Arjun Nihalchandani for his alleged links with Shobhan Mehta, a top police official said. Arjun was arrested from Ahmedabad recently. Meanwhile, Mehta, who was re-arrested by the Ahmedabad crime branch from a hospital in Mumbai will be produced in a local court later on Saturday.
