NEW DELHI, May 11: Holders Indian Airlines will meet ONGC tomorrow in the semifinal of the 26th Goswami Ganesh Dutt memorial tournament when they beat Bright Club by 84 runs at Hindu College here today.

Put in to bat, Airlines were given a flying start by skipper Vijay Dahiya (69: 71b, 9×4) and Manvinder Bisla (30) who put on 92 runs in in 15 overs. Shafiq Khan (47 not out: 44b, 3×4, 2×6) and Ashok Singh (48: 26b, 5×4, 2×6) added a further 58 for the fifth wicket in only five overs.

In reply, Bright were shot out for 159. Rakesh Kaushal (30), Yogesh Tyagi (22) and Sanjay Saini (20) were the only batsmen to negotiate the Airlines attack with any degree of confidence. Shankar Saini, Sukhwinder Singh and Dahiya claimed two wickets each.

In fact Bright did not have a bright start as they were down by three wickets with just 26 runs on the board. With Saini and R.P. Singh accounting for the first three wickets, the latter batsmen tried to steady the sinking Bright ship without bothering for the escalating run-rate.

The second semifinal between Sonnet and D S Group will be played on May 15. The final is scheduled for May 16.

Brief scores: Indian Airlines: 243 for 7 in 40 overs (Vijay Dahiya 69, Shafiq Khan 47, Ashok Singh 48, Manvinder Bisla 30). Bright: 159 in 37.4 overs (Yogesh Tyagi 22, Rakesh Kaushal 20, Sanjay Saini 20, Vijay Dahiya 2 for 17, Sukhwinder Singh 2 for 27, Shankar Saini 2 for 27).
