MELBOURNE, MARCH 31: Melbourne might not get the solo run it expects to host the 2006 Commonwealth Games with Cape Town and New Delhi emerging as possible challenges.

Melbourne’s only rival to host the games, Wellington, dropped out of the race last month and with bids closing in London on April 9, it was expected there would be no more challengers.

Walker has also said Melbourne will draw bigger crowds to the Commonwealth Games than the Sydney 2000 Olympics if it is named host city.

PTI adds from New Delhi: It is not Melbourne alone that has all infrastructure in place.
