KALIMPONG, August 24: Carlton Champman will lead the 20-member Indian soccer squad for the SAARC Gold Cup tournament to be held at Kathmandu from September 4.

After a marathon two-hour meeting this evening at the picturesque hill town of Kalimpong, the team was declared. The meeting was attended by All India Football Federation (AIFF) President Priya Ranjan Dasmunshi, National coach Syed Nayemuddin, assistant coach Gabriel Joseph and Chandan Singh.The team: M Rajiv Kumar, Sumit Mukherjee, Juje Siddi, Robert Fernandes, Naushad Moosa, Franky Bareto, KV Thanesh, Jeevan Mores, Khalid Jamil, Carlton Chapman (captain), Bruno Cutinho, Savio Medera, Samatai Saiza, Jules Albert, Jo Paul Ancheri, Baichung Bhutia, Amit Das, IM Vijayan, Raman Vijayan and Abdul Khalique.

CALCUTTA: After winning the British Under-12 Chess Championship a few days back, the talented Kumardip Chakraborty finished runner-up in the junior group of the British Chess Olympiad held in London. He was tied with with equal points for the title, but was 0.5 points behind in the progressive score count according to information reaching today.
