CALCUTTA, July 31: The Cricket Association of Bengal, the organiseers of the Independence Cup final at the Eden Gardens on May 27, has decided not to pay Calcutta Police Rs 11 lakh as demanded, for making security arrangements.

The decision was reached at the general body meeting yesterday.

In an unprecedented move, Calcutta Police had asked CAB to pay Rs 11 lakh for security arrangements for the day-night match between Sri Lanka and Pakistan.

AIFF camp

CALCUTTA: Fourteen soccer probables from Goa and Kerala are leaving here tonight for Kalimpong to join the All India Football Federation AIFF coaching camp for selecting the Indian team for the SAARC Football Tournament to be held in Kathmandu in September next.

The camp under the guidance of Dronacharya awardee Syed Nayemuddin has already begun with nine players .

IBF keeping clear

NEW DELHI:THE secretary general of the Asian Badminton Confederation and International Badminton Federation observer for the Badminton Federation of India8217;s Annual General body meeting this Sunday, Punch Gunalan, clarified that the IBF does not want to interfere in the current crisis facing the game in India, due to the formation of the Indian Badminton Confederation.

He said: 8220;Personally, I feel that anything you do should have an objective. And, in the case of the BAI and IBC, I believe that the objective players8217; welfare is the same though the means of achieving it may differ,8221; he said.
