Ghei excels on first day

October 15: Gaurav Ghei was the only Indian among eight to record below par opening round, while towering Australian John Senden fired a 4 under par 67 to share the lead in the 200,000 Omega Tour8217;s Kuala Lumpur golf here today.

Ghei returned one under par 70 to finish at joint ninth slot while fancied Jeev Milkha Singh shot three over par 74 and was lying at joint 57th slot.

Vivek Bhandari, Arjun Singh and Jyoti Randhwa carded identical four over par 75 and were at joint 68th place.

Chandigarh professionals Amritinder Singh and Amandeep Johl hit identical six over par 77 to be at crowded 91st slot.

Kanwar Sekhon had a dismal round. He shot disasterous ten over par 81 and was way down at 126th slot.

Ashok, Irina keep lead<

CHANDIGARH: Ashok Kumar of Delhi further enhanced his chances of winning the boys under-18 category title in the IGU-catgorised St Xavier8217;s Northern India Junior and Sub-Junior Golf Tournament being conducted by Chandigarh Golf Clubat its sprawling course here today. Going from strenghth to strength, Ashok carded one over par 73 after 80 on the first day and 75 on the second day, to aggregate 228.
