Cricketers can now have their wives joining them during matches.

quot;In view of the tight schedule, which keeps the players away from their families for long, I have no objection if their wives join them,quot; Anshuman Gaekwad, coach of the Indian team said.

MUMBAI:
Emirates, the international airline of the United Arab Emirates, would be the official carrier of the squads for World Cup Cricket Championship to be played in England from May 14 to June 20 next year.

The chairman of Emirates, Sheikh Ahmed Bin Saeed Al Maktoum, in a statement here today said: quot;this is the first time that Emirates has been involved in a major sponsorship involving cricket. We were attracted to the event as all the participants, except the West Indies, come from countries which weserve.quot;

Adidas to kit EB
CALCUTTA:
Multi-national sports goods manufacturers Adidas will sponsor East Bengal8217;s kit, including shoes and apparel for the next three years. While announcing this at a media conference, officials of Adidas also said that they will pay additional bonus, based on the team8217;s performance in various tournaments.

Scribe dead
NAGPUR:
Sports journalist Prabhakar Shirolkar alias Prabhu died at a private nursing home here today after a heart attack. He was 67. He is survived by his wife and a son, family sources said.

The former sports desk chief of the now defunct English daily Nagpur Times was the founder secretary of the Nagpur Sports Journalists8217; Association.

Shyam Sundar Ghosh of The Statesman, Calcutta was re-elected president of Sports Journalists Federation of India at its annual general meeting held here today. Ghosh who was president of SJFI earlier during 1992-96 succeeded S Thyagarajan of The Hindu,Chennai.
