The Tonk District Special Team (DST) Wednesday said that they have seized 150 kilograms of ammonium nitrate from a vehicle and are investigating all angles behind transportation of the explosive.
Tonk Deputy Superintendent of Police Mritunjay Mishra said that, “There has been a big action by the DST team led by DST in-charge Om Prakash today. There was a Maruti Ciaz car which was coming from Bundi towards Tonk. DST received information about the vehicle and intercepted it within Barooni police station limits and seized explosives from the vehicle.”
The Deputy SP said that, “The explosive was 150 kilograms of ammonium nitrate which was hidden in urea sacks. Apart from this, 200 explosive cartridges and 1,100 metre wire were also seized by the police.”
The police arrested Surendra 48, son of Bhanwarlal and a native of Bundi and Surendra Mochi 35, son of Dhuli Lal, also from Bundi.
Mishra said that ammonium nitrate is used for explosions and the investigation is on why and from where the men were carrying the explosive substance, as well as the destination and the other persons who may be involved with the duo.
Asked whether it was for mining purposes or whether the occupants had other motives in light of the New Year’s Eve, the Deputy SP said that the investigation is on.
Following the Red Fort blast this year, too, police had seized a huge quantity of ammonium nitrate from the home of one of the accused.
