
Rhea claims title in Belgium
MUMBAI: Rhea Bhandari of India on Sunday won her second junior international title when she beat Sarah Beck of Brussels 9-2, 9-2, 9-5 in the under-16 final of the Belgium Spalding Squash Championships.
Fourteen-year-old Rhea, who trains with state coach Cyrus Poncha at the Willingdon Sports Club here, is currently playing the European junior circit. She will play three more junior tournaments this month. The next event will be the German Junior Open at Stuttgart, according to the information received here. Rhea8217;s maiden international crown was in 1996 when whe won the Hong Kong Junior Open, at the age of 12.
Indian boys win
NEW DELHI: After their emphatic first round win against Malaysia, Indian boys continued their good run with another 3-0 win against Philippines in the World Junior championships in Jakarta, Indonesia.
While P. Vishal defeated Yannik Gube 6-1, 6-2, Parantap Chaturvedi took out Marco Lua 6-3, 6-1. In the doubles, P. Vishal and Parantapbreezed past Yannick Guba and Ricardo 6-4, 6-1.
Meanwhile, the Indian girls had yet another unlucky day going down to Philippines 0-3. Iesha Lakhani went down fighting to Ma Edna Chairse 6-2, 4-6, 4-6 and Megha Wakharia, after a close 5-7 first set, caved in 2-6 in the second.
Iesha Lakhani and Lata Assudani gave the Filipinos a tough fight in the doubles before going down to Czarina Yae and Julie Ann 6-4, 3-6, 3-6.

MUMBAI: All-rounder Mohammed Akram Khan would lead a 14-member Bangladesh cricket team in the Coca Cola Cup Triangular One-Day Series to be held here from May 14 to 31.

MUMBAI: Kenya have named a new captain in Asif Yusuf Karim replacingMaurice Odumbe in the team for the team to play here in the triangular contest from May 14.
The Kenyan team has four players 8212; Hitesh Modi, Dipak Chudasama. Alpesh Vallabhdas Vadher and Ravindu Dhirjlal Shah 8212; whose ancestors settled in Africa from Gujarat. Chudasama also played the the World Cup here and will again open with his regular partner Kennedy Otieno.
