APRIL 13: India have been placed in Pool B in the men’s hockey championship at the Sydney Olympics Games, according to a release of the International Hockey Federation. The matches are to be held from September 16 to 30 at the State Hockey Centre in the Sydney Olympic Park.
The 12 teams are divided into two pools of six teams each. India’s arch-rivals Pakistan find place in Pool A.
Anyhow, the participation of South Africa, who are in Group B along with India, is doubtful as the National Olympic Committee of South Africa had previously stated that they did not intend to send the men team to Olympics. In such an eventuality, their position will be taken by the first reserve team Argentina.
The women’s tourney has 10 teams in two pools. The first reserve country among women is USA.
