
CHANDIGARH, July 26: A seminar on 8220;India-China Tensions: Damage Control Measures8221; was organised at the Department of Geology, Punjab University, here today.
Initiating the discussion, senior vice-president of India-China Friendship Society, H. S. Halwarvi stated that the recent tension between the two countries was created by the statement of Defence Minister George Fernandes which was followed by nuclear tests.
H. S. Mehta, who retired from the SGGS College, observed that old controversial issues must be avoided.
R. L. Singal, associate editor of 8220;India-China Mirror8221;, stated that economic competence could ease the situation.
Another speaker, Aman Kant, held the Western powers responsible for playing India and China against each other. R. L. Batta, vice-president of the association, felt that both the countries should make attempts to restore their traditional ties of friendship.
