The Bharatiya Janata Party BJP candidate from Dwarka Assembly constituency, Pradyuman Rajpoot, escaped unhurt after a bullet allegedly fired by unidentified persons scraped past him on Thursday night. According to the complaint filed by the candidate, the bullet missed its mark and hit a wall behind. The incident occurred around 11.30 pm, near the BJP office in Sagarpur, Dwarka.
According to Rajpoot, he had just got off his car and was talking on his cellphone when two men came speeding on a motorbike and fired at him. 8220;I had my back turned towards the road and could not see the assailants coming,8221; he told Newsline. 8220;My party men saw one of them taking out a revolver and aiming it at me.8221;
Rajpoot said he ducked just in time as the party workers accompanying him shouted in alarm. Then, 8220;the two sped away immediately.8221;
Dabri Station House Officer A K Jain said a case has been registered against unknown persons. 8220;It is too early to comment on who could be behind the attack. We have begun investigation.8221;
Rajpoot and his party workers, meanwhile, alleged Mahabal Mishra, the Congress candidate from Dwarka, was behind the attack, though the FIR does not mention that.
Mishra said he did not even know about the incident and in turn alleged it could be a self-staged incident to gain sympathy of the voters. 8220;I was not even aware of the attack until some mediapersons called me this noon to enquire,8221; he said. 8220;It is just a gimmick on Rajpoot8217;s part to gain sympathy of voters just before the polls.8221;
He said, 8220;It will have no effect on my supporters; I am confident of victory.8221;
BJP8217;s chief ministerial candidate V K Malhotra said: 8220;I was informed of the incident this Friday evening. It is too early to point fingers at anyone.8221;
