Danish ambassador to arrive in city with the Vedas
The Ambassador of Denmark, Birjit Storegaard, will visit the Vedashastrottejak Sabha on October 29 to hand over two hundred recorded cassettes of the Vedas available with Denmark. Danish scholar in Sanskrit Guni Kirchheiner, who had spent sometime in India, had recorded the words of wisdom of the six branches of the Vedas from pundits like D P Kinjavdekar, Keshav Bhatt Joglekar, Vasudev Shastri Gokhale and V L Bhate.
Founded in 1875 by Jusitce M G Ranade, the Sabha, this year, is celebrating its 125th year. Aware that the oral tradition is dying, the Sabha has launched an ambitious project to preserve the Vedas by recording them. It has already got on tape the Rigveda and the Samaveda Kauthama school. Chairman P S Palande is heading the activities of the Sabha.
