
11 properties attached, Rs 21 lakh recovered
The Pune Municipal Corporation on Thursday continued its special drive against tax defaulters by attaching 11 properties and recovering arrears of about Rs 21 lakh. The civic body will also undertake special efforts in the next week to recover the arrears from the residents living in the 38 merged villages Tax assessment department chief Arun Patil said the corporation on Thursday recovered Rs 21 lakh from 70 defaulters. Prominent who paid the arrears today include Waman Hari Peth Rs 1.49 lakh and Sing Cycle Mart in Kasba Peth Rs 77,836. The arrears were also recovered from a number of traders in Gultekdi marketyard.
Besides, properties of 11 defaulters were attached. They are Genu Thorat Rs 84,931, Principal, Abhinav Kala Mahavidyalaya Rs 82,851, Arun Malhotra Rs 2.81 lakh, Ramnath Somani Rs 95,432, MHADA Rs 2.18 lakh, Rajkumar Behar Rs 1.41 lakh, Babulal Oswal Rs 71,104, M H Bhapkar Rs 1.12 lakh, Jayant Oswal Rs 23,000 and System International Rs 33,912.
9 flyovers to come up from June
The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation is expected to start construction of nine flyovers in the city next month.
A delegation of Maharashtra Vikas Aghadi, BJP and Shiv Sena, led by Mayor Datta Gaikwad, called on Public Works Minister Nitin Gadkari on Wednesday in connection with the flyovers. Gaikwad said MSRDC has already initiated process in this direction as the designs and other specifications of all the flyovers were being prepared.
The mayor said the constructions of flyovers at Hadapsar, Aundh and Gunjan would be undertaken immediately as they do not require land acquisition. Gaikwad said the delegation also met Chief Minister Narayan Rane to discuss various issues related to the city. He said Rane would hold a separate meeting with party leaders in the next week in the city.
Bhatia shows Andekar the door
Maharashtra Vikas Aghadi corporator Ramakant Andekar on Wednesday had to virtually face the wrath of Arun Bhatia when he had gone to the municipal commissioner requesting him to stop demolition in Bhavani Peth.
PMC sources said anti-encroachment squad had gone to Bhavani Peth to take action against some traders, when a mob of 50 people, led by Andekar tried to stop them. The civic employees made it clear that they would not stop the action unless instructed to do so by the municipal commissioner. Andekar, along with traders and his workers went to Bhatia8217;s office to request him to stop the drive. Bhatia, however, refused to oblige him and warned that he would be forced to lodge a complaint with the police if they tried to stop the work. A chastened Andekar and his supporters did not dare to go to the site again.
