50 seats still vacant in PU
Fifty seats are vacant in B.Sc Honours first year in various courses at Panjab University. According to Prof H.M. Dani, convenor, Joint Admission Committee, the last counselling for admission will be held in the department of biochemistry on November 10 at 9.00 am for admission as well as transfer between departments for filling the seats. All CET qualified candidates can appear in the interview even if they have not appeared in the previous interviews. Fourteen seats are vacant in the department of Anthropology, while 13 seats are vacant in Geology. Physics has nine vacant seats, while four each are vacant in Biophysics and Zoology. Three seats are vacant in Microbiology, while one each are vacant in Biochemistry, Botany, and Chemistry.

PU teachers sit in dharna
A dharna was organised by the executive members of the Punjab University Teachers Association today to protest the non-implementation of new pay scales by the government. The dharna followed a call by the Punjab Federation of University Teachers Association to teachers unions all over the state. The secretary of PUTA, M. Rajivlochan stated that coupled with the increase in cost of living, the delay on the part of the government was further impoverishing the teachers. Regularise part time teachers8217; n ON a call given by the Indian Council for Child Welfare Employees Union, employees working in different creches of the Bal Bhawan staged a day-long dharna in Sector 23 today. The protestors were demanding pay structure in accordance with the fourth pay commission report, regularisation of part-time teachers and issuance of uniforms to the helpers and fourth class staff, besides other things.

Theatre workshop at Mansa Devi
A three-day workshop for theatre artistes was organised by the Public Relations Department at Mansa Devi Complex. Nearly 12 theatre parties from different districts participated in the workshop. The Haryana Minister of Public Relation Department Attar Singh Saini, while speaking on the occasion, said that the main aim of the workshop was to prepare scripts about the government initiated development programmes and show the skits in villages to educate people.

Power men hold rally
On the call given by the Federation of UT Employees and Workers, the UT Power men Union today held a rally here to press for their demands. Their demands included payment of bonus, regularisation of all daily wagers and granting them the arrears of revised pay scales.
