Midha hands over charge
UT Chief Architect and ex-officio Secretary, Department of Urban Planning, S. K. Midha today relinquished charge from the Chandigarh Administration, following his repatriation to his parent state of Haryana, where he would report tomorrow. Midha handed over the charge to Sarabjit Singh, a senior architect, who will look after the work in addition to his present duties.

Congmen protest outside DC office
Members of the District Congress Committee Rural held a dharna in front of the Deputy Commissioner8217;s office today. They criticised the BJP-led government at the Centre and sought probe into the alleged charges of corruption against the sacked Admiral Vishnu Bhagat. Prabhu Dayal, the district president of the committee condemned the alleged poor law and order situation in the country which, he said, needs to be checked. The members handed over a memorandum of their demands to the DC. The demands include the extension of Lal Dora, constitution of Zila Parishad in Chandigarh, dairy sheds to the dairy owners among others.

Dharna by FCI staff
Members of the Food Corporation of India Class IV Employees8217; Union today staged a dharna in front of the regional office of the FCI, Sector 34.The dharna was led by Amar Nath, the general secretary of the All India FCI Employees8217; Executive Staff Union. Addressing the gathering, Nath alleged that they have not even been paid the due payments which include E.S.I., E.P.F., medical allowance and uniforms. Lal Singh, the state president demanded that the facilities to Class IV employees be at par with the other cadres.

Death condoled
Punjab Chief Minister Prakash Singh Badal has expressed grief over the death of 78-year-old Padma Kand Tripathi, an eminent journalist, also the founder editor of Dainik Tribune, here today.The Chief Minister expressed his sympathy and condolence for the members of the bereaved family. Tripathi was a resident of Sector 6 and is survived by two daughters and two sons.

R Dass in Mohali
R Dass, a US-based singer is visiting the city on Thursday. Dass will address the media at a press conference in SAS Nagar, a press release issued by Anoop Kumar Prashar of Acme 8212; The Art Group stated here tonight.
