CHANDIGARH, January 20: In the second phase of pulse polio immunisation programme today, more than 12,500 children were given polio drops in and around the City.

District Family Welfare Officer Indira Duggal said that the figure amounted to 13 per cent increase from the number of the children immunised last time. About 246 centres were set up for the purpose.

In the 24 immunisation camps organised by the Rotary Club of Chandigarh Midtown, about 2,000 children including 1,000 children of the migrant labourers were administered polio vaccine.

The mobile van of the club was used for purpose, said club secretary Vanita Gupta.More than 1,500 polio drops were offered by the local branch of State Bank of Patiala in Kajheri village under the supervision of Lakhvir Kaur Cheema.

Lions Club, Chandigarh Central, monitored two pulse polio centres in Behlana and Raipur Khurd villages where 1,000 children given drops. The members of the Citizen8217;s Awareness Group helped Administration in making the drive a successby organising camps in Sector 38,39,40,41, Kajheri and Maloya village.

The Kaimbwala branch of the State Bank of Patiala along with the UT Health Department organised a pulse polio camp in village where 400 children were given polio drops.Lions Club Midtown Chandigarh also organised immunisation programme in six centres of Colony No. 5 where 4,500 children given drops.

In Colony No. 31, the Lions Club Rose Chandigarh held two camps in which 2,700 were vaccinated.The Sanawar branch of the State Bank of Patiala also helped the authorities in mobilising people for immunising their children under the bank8217;s community banking scheme, said bank manager S.C. Dhal.
