In the wake of the global meltdown, the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIM-A) is learnt to have sought the help of its alumni to make final placement of the current batch of students a success this year. According to sources, the IIM-A authorities have written letters to its alumni urging them to support the institute in accomplishing both lateral and final placements of students, as the latter are slightly apprehensive about this.Institute officials, however, termed it as routine letters. “Letters to alumni are sent in routine course every year as part of its extensive exercise to mobilise resources well before the beginning of the placement sessions,” said Srijan Pal Singh, general secretary of Student Affairs Council. The lateral and final placements are scheduled to kick start from January and March 2009 respectively, a placement cell member said.“Lateral placements are scheduled to begin in the first week of January. Students with over 18 months’ work experience, gained prior to joining the institute, are eligible for it,” Singh said.Over 120 students are expected to participate in the lateral placements, which is 50 per cent of the batch ready for the final placements, he added.
