CHANDIGARH, April 19: The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) will start a new distance education course in B Ed from January, officiating Vice-Chancellor Prof Janardhan Jha said here today.
In the city to attend the Fifth National Conference of the Indian Distance Education Association (IDEA) at the Technical Teachers’ Training Institute, Prof Jha said a regional centre of IGNOU will be established in Punjab this year.
The exact location of the regional centre will be decided in consultation with the Punjab government, he told Newsline. Jalandhar is one of the probable sites as some land is available near the Punjab Technical University. "The Punjab government has shown its willingness to give that land to IGNOU for establishing the centre," he said. Karnal, he added, would continue to be the regional centre for Haryana, and a new centre has been established at Jammu.
Regarding the B Ed course, Prof Jha said the number of seats would be limited, and a quota would be fixed for students from Punjab and Haryana.When asked about the delay in the despatch of study material for the MBA course this year, he said printing problems had led to this situation and the university had decided to defer the dates of submission of assignments. However, the annual examination dates would not be changed, he added.
