SAS NAGAR, June 12: The 20 th branch of the IDBI bank was inaugurated here today by Deepak Mukerjee, Managing Director of the bank. It is also the first branch of the bank in Punjab, after having already made its presence in 15 cities.

Addressing a press conference later, Mukerjee said total deposits of the IDBI bank have tripled to Rs 1845.5 crore this year from Rs 505 crore during the previous year. The advances had also risen to Rs 843 crore during the year from Rs 495 crore. Net profit had also gone up by five times from Rs 3.69 crore to Rs 20.05 crore.

Mukerjee said that the bank was in the process of setting up off-site ATMs in key areas of various cities in the country. It was also exploring the possibility of launching Smart Card which would make cashless transactions a reality. Additionally the bank was on the verge of launching internet banking to introduce interactive banking facility which would give the corporate sector to access their accounts through internet.

About the performance of Chandigarh branch, A.K.Minocha, branch manager of Chandigarh told that the branch had done a business of about Rs 200 crore within less than two years of functioning. He said that the branch was considering to launch a unique value added service under which electricity bills of customers could be paid by the bank and funds transferred to the electricity board.
