Six days ago, Pravin Mahajan8212;who allegedly shot at his brother BJP general secretary Pramod three times on April 228212;told the police that his only regret was that his .32 Browning pistol had jammed, preventing him from emptying the rest of the bullets into his elder brother.
On Saturday, police said Pravin reiterated that regret while in custody, saying he wished he had serviced the weapon before visiting his brother because then it wouldn8217;t have jammed on the fourth bullet. 8220;That was only mistake, I should have had the pistol serviced in advance,8217;8217; he reportedly told an interrogation officer on Friday.
Pramod today underwent a 8220;successful8221; surgical procedure for cleaning up of abdominal cavity and placing of drainage tubes even as Pravin8217;s police remand was extended for a week till May 3.
The Worli police told the Bhoiwada Metropolitan Court today that Pravin was giving evasive replies and misleading them. The police said Pravin discussed the brothers8217; relationship in detail while at the Agripada lock-up.
Pravin, however, allegedly avoided discussing the motive for the shooting, standing by his earlier statements that the armed assault was prompted by the continued humiliation he suffered at his brother8217;s hands.
Asked about his pistol and arms licence, Pravin allegedly told interrogators he had got it for his own security. However, he denied carrying it every day8212;something his lawyer had initially claimed, while insisting that the shooting was not premeditated.
Asked about legal aid, he also allegedly said that he did not intend to pay for a defence lawyer. 8216;8216;I don8217;t need special help. I can plead my case in front of the court. And even if I need a lawyer, I will not pay him a paisa because my case will make him famous,8217;8217; he allegedly said. 8216;8216;Did anybody know advocate Rajurkar Pravin8217;s current lawyer before this incident?8217;8217;
