Why the self-imposed exile from the media?
Hey, that’s not true. It’s just that I have been travelling and shooting constantly. I don’t play elusive. I’ve just been busy, working really hard.

But you’ve been seen at parties across town.
Yeah, so? Anyway, I just attend two parties a week. There’s just no time for more partying.

You’re only working on one film right now…
I’ve always done one film at a time. I will continue to do that and soon everyone will be doing it. Right now, I’m shooting for Siddharth Anand’s Salaam Namaste, after which I will do Karan Johar’s film.

What’s your part in Krrish, the sequel to Koi…Mil Gaya?
Well, I am doing it, but my role is very small.

Are you upset that the Roshans opted for Priyanka Chopra instead of you?
Why would I be? I am very happy that the film will have a sequel. I like the idea of sequels, and am excited that the story is getting more rocking.

Salaam Namaste re-unites you with your ‘lucky co-star’ Saif Ali Khan.
You’re going to see a different Preity in Siddharth’s film. We’re shooting in Australia for three months. I have a new look, and I just love it. As for Saif, this film is perfect for us. The moment we heard the story, we were like, my god, it’s so us.

What do you mean?
Our relationship in real life is exactly the same as it is depicted in the film. We have a certain chemistry and are just such good friends, it always shows on screen. We are so alike in our temperaments—both mad.

You were linked with Saif too.
Yeah, and I kept on denying it. I do not lie.

If I have somebody in my life, I say it. If somebody is a friend, then he is just a friend.

What category does Ness Wadia fall under?
Yes, I am seeing Ness.

Have you seen Black?
Yes, and I loved it.

How did you like Rani Mukerji’s performance?
Everyone was gorgeous in the film.

You have this cute, bubbly image on screen. Are you scared of growing old?
I just played a 50-year-old woman in Veer-Zaara. It was amazing to be 50. When they were doing my make-up, I could see myself ageing in the mirror. I kept thinking that this is how I will look when I’m old. So, you see, I have no fear of growing old.

Is the cold war with Kareena Kapoor still on?
We’ve all grown up. I believe firmly that life is lived forward and understood backwards. I do not hold any grudges against Kareena and wish her well. I don’t have an ego and have no issues about going up to her and saying hello, even if she doesn’t.

How do you stay so grounded?
No matter how high your heels are, they’re just heels. Once you remove them, you will be back on the ground.
