Even as the process of electing representatives for the 15th Vidhan Sabha in Uttar Pradesh continues, the state government is set to convene an Assembly session before May 8 8212; the last day of polling in the multi-phased election process.
Speaker Mata Prasad Pandey has called the meeting of the House on April 30. A Bill to give minority status to the Mohammad Ali Jauhar University will be tabled. The state Cabinet has already passed a proposal in this regard, making Mohammad Azam Khan a life-long chancellor of Jauhar University.
It may be mentioned that the last meeting of the state Assembly was convened on February 25, the day Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav sought a trust vote. Since then, House meetings have been postponed five times and the last meeting was scheduled for April 25.
That meeting was postponed as the Speaker was busy with with the campaign for his own re-election. Hence, the Business Advisory Committee of the House could not meet.
According to the secretariat of the state Assembly, with the BAC failing to meet, the House meeting could be postponed yet again.
However, officials confirmed that the Bill regarding Jauhar University was ready.
