With the Pratapsinh Rane government scrapping the Regional Plan 2011 following public protests, Goa is expected to run out of hotel rooms for the booming tourism industry. Nitin Kuncolienkar, president of Goa Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI), said that the supply-demand gap for hotel rooms in Goa would widen and budget tourists will not be able to afford travelling to Goa. “Today there are no rooms available in starred hotels. There is a shortage of around 20,000 rooms during the peak season. The situation will worsen if tourism picks up. Because of the land shortage new hotels will not come up,” he said.

He added that with no new land being released for housing, local residents would run short of houses.
