Seven persons died today after consuming spurious liquor in suburban Vikhroli in north-east Mumbai.

Police said at least 28 people were admitted to Rajawadi and Mahatma Phule hospitals since 2.30 am after they complained of vomiting and dizziness. The victims were brought from Indira Nagar near suburban Vikhroli station.

The Maharashtra Government transferred two DCPs and suspended several officers, following the tragedy.

DCP Zone vii Dilip Bhujbal and DCP Zone iii Ashok Dongre have been transferred and the officials of the rank of ACPs, senior police inspectors, police inspectors on beat have been suspended, Home Minister R.R. Patil said. An order to this effect was conveyed to Police Commissioner A.N. Roy.
