The Delhi Police is busy registering cases under Section 505-B (creating fear or alarm among general public) against unknown people, after the Capital received at least eight hoax bomb calls on Wednesday.
The separate calls warned about terrorists holed up in six places, including four schools. The police took no chances and combed the different areas. Sniffer dogs and bomb disposal squads were also called in before they declared the calls hoax.
The Southwest District Control Room received an anonymous call around 11.30 am saying one terrorist each was holed up inside Rose Model School in Dwarka and Gyan Bharti School in Rajouri Garden. The police said bomb disposal squads and sniffer dogs were rushed to both schools, which were then evacuated.
Extensive searches lasting about an hour were conducted, at the end of which the police said the call was a hoax.
The next call was received around 12 pm about a terrorist inside Spring Meadows School near Dwarka More.
The police said anxious parents and relatives thronged to the school, creating a huge traffic jam in the area.
“Anxious parents called in to enquire about the safety of their children. Our school is on the main road and there was a huge traffic jam outside when guardians came to the school to get their kids,” Anshul Dewan, vice-principal, Spring Meadows, said.
Between 11.30 am and 1.30 pm, other schools like BR Public School, Gagan Bharti Public School, Kendriya Vidyalaya in Hastsal, Savitri Devi Sanjeevani Public School and Kamal Model School also received hoax calls. Classes were resumed after the calls were declared hoaxes but Savitri Devi Sanjeevani Public School dispersed classes half an hour before time.
A hoax call was also received at the Uttam Nagar police station.
