Highest grant for Pune varsity

PUNE, May 18: University of Pune tops the UGC list for receiving the highest grant of Rs 7.25 crore towards the development of its colleges followed closely by Gujarat University which has been allocated a sum of Rs 7.2 crore. Sanction letters have already been issued and the grant disbursed with 67 affiliated to the UoP in addition to 140 Post-Graduate departments being the beneficiaries.

In the ninth five year plan, colleges are given grants based on the number of students, permanent teachers in non-government colleges and regular teachers in government colleges. Science colleges conducting field work have gained tremendously with women8217;s colleges and tribal ones too benefiting from the development grant.

The Western Region of the UGC has 16 universities covering 750-odd colleges in Maharashtra, Goa and Gujarat.
