8226; Now that the fee reduction controversy of IIM8217;s has been laid to rest by the Supreme Court with the Central government committing itself to make good the fiscal deficit and undertaking not to dilute their autonomy, it is high time that the high profile boards examine how well they are functioning. The goal of institutions like IIM should be to deliver high quality education in an efficient and effective manner at the least cost possible.
It is a commonly held belief that having selected outstanding students the institutes provide the enabling environment and help them sharpen their skills to emerge as fairly polished managers. However the bane of IIMs is similar to most public sector organisations. These institutions over the years have emerged as bloated inefficient organisations and a large chunk of the funds go to sustaining parts that do not contribute to their primary goal.

It8217;s give and take
8226; True to his reputation, Syed Shahabuddin paints a sad picture for minorities in India 8216;13 questions to the BJP8217;, IE, February 28. While he has a right to expect favours from any political party, his pitch that political parties accept his community 8220;as-is8221; and submit to all their demands just does not make sense. He does not talk about what his community should or needs to do. Nor does he talk about the much-needed reform in his community. All he wants is favours from the BJP and autonomy for Muslim religious and social bodies. At the same time, he retains his right to attack Hindu religious and social organisations. Mr Shahbuddin, isn8217;t democracy and secularism all about give and take?

8226; I totally agree with Syed Shahabuddin. If the BJP party has really changed then let them answer the questions put forward by not only Shahabuddin, but the entire 150 million Muslims of India. I would like to add one more rider. If the BJP promises security for the average Muslim and takes concrete steps to that effect, the entire Muslim population will vote for the BJP. Muslims don8217;t need or expect anything else. Please let us live in peace.

Guilty, each one
8226; It is a shame and disgrace that people who have been elected to positions, where they have to display that they are protectors of the tax payers8217; money are in reality stealing it 8216;You have right to know how she 8216;misuses8217; her car8217;, IE, February 27. Each and every representative from state ministers, their second in command, the representatives of the goverment, the city representatives, and others, are doing the same thing. Practically all the ministers of the Maharashtra government have huge business interests and they are freely using their official cars, telephones, etc, for this purpose. They have not contributed an iota to the state but have robbed it beyond belief.

In a ditch?
8226; I find it hard to believe that Tamil Nadu politics is issue based as opposed to Hema Malini8217;s politics 8216;Hema, Meena, Deeka8217;, IE, February 27. The writer must stop eulogising Tamil Nadu politics. Everybody is in the ditch. If anything the north still has some of the better politicians today.
