
AHMEDABAD, Nov 24: To mark World Heritage Week, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation AMC, along with the Department of Youth Welfare and Culture, launched a number of programmes which were inaugurated by the Health and Family Welfare Minister Ashok Bhatt here on Wednesday.
Speaking on the occasion, Bhatt said our rich and ancient culture should be made known to the world. He pointed out that India8217;s architectural and cultural heritage was invaluable. Bhatt called upon Amdavadis to protect and preserve them for the future generations.
Mayor Maliniben Atit said Ahmedabad was growing fast. She said that it has risen from a hamlet to a metropolis. The city also finds mention in ancient manuscripts. She added that it was equally important to guard the rare heritage of the city. She regretted most people were unaware of the legacy of the city.
Atit appreciated the efforts by the Deparments of Archaeology and Youth Welfare and Culture for spreading awareness about the archaeological inheritance. An exhibition of photographs on the culture and architectural heritage of the city was organised at the Swaminarayan Temple on the occasion.
