NEW DELHI, Jan 14: The Delhi High Court today expressed displeasure over the Union Government8217;s move to take away a bungalow from the High Court pool and offering an alternative house.
A division bench comprising Justices Y K Sabharwal and K S Gupta, while directing the Estate Department of the Urban Affairs Ministry to hand over possession of the 9, Akbar Road house to the High Court registrar during the course of day said, 8220;It is not fair for the government to make such an offer.8221;
The bungalow was transferred to the High Court pool by the Estate Department in August last year after a judge8217;s house in Tughlaq Lane was vacated as it fell within the area demarcated for the proposed Mass Rapid Transport System in the City.
However, the Akbar Road house was occupied by Janata Dal president Sharad Yadav, who vacated it on January 6. The government counsel submitted that the Estate Department had proposed to offer another house to the High Court pool and wanted to retain the Akbar Road bungalow.
Dismissing the Government request, the bench said its order to transfer the Akbar Road house to the High Court registrar should be complied with immediately.
