CHANDIGARH, Dec 1: Bhupinder8217;s hat-trick enabled St Xavier8217;s Senior Secondary School-44 to thrash St Joseph High School-9, 4-0 in the opening league match of the Inter-School football tournament for St Xavier8217;s trophy which commenced at the Sector 17 Football Stadium here today.

It was left-winger Manoj, who put St Xavier8217;s School ahead in the first quarter of the encounter. After the break, it was the turn of Bhupinder, who shot three-in-a-row. He scored in the 35th, 46th and 50th minutes.

With this win today, St Xavier8217;s gained three valuable points.

In the second league match of the day, Guru Nanak Public School-36 beat Tribune Model School-29 by two goals to nil.

Sanbir scored in the 25th minute while Raghubir consolidated the lead in the 46th minute.

Sanjay Public School-44 also scored 3-0 victory over St Soldier8217;s School-29.

Gaurav, Naresh and Sanjeev were the marksmen for the team.

In another league match, Guru Har Krishan School-40 got a walkover from St Stephen8217;s School-45, who played truant.

DAV-8 lift trophy
DAV Senior Secondary School-8 beat Government Model School-35 by a 86 runs to win the trophy in the under-14 boys group in the Chandigarh State Inter-School cricket tournament.

Brief Scores: DAV-8: 153 for 4 in 20 overs Vishu Arora 51, Vikas 37, Kartik 33, Sahil 2 for 27, Aman 2 for 29; GMSSS-35: 67 in 19.4 overs Deepak 14, Rajneesh 5 for 6, Kartik 2 for 16, Vikas 2 for 10.

Taekwondo team
A 17-member Chandigarh team including three girls will take part in the 13th National taekwondo championship to be held at Bhuneshwar from December 21 to 23.
