CHANDIGARH, March 17: A dharna was staged by the Haryana Employees Coordination Committee members near 30 Base building in Sector 17 to protest the alleged callous attitude of the state government towards their demands.

Employees and representatives from the various departments of the state government participated in the dharna. The demands of the employees include pay parity of the employees of the Directorate with the Secretariat employees, and implementation of the fifth pay commission report, among others.

General secretary Naresh Kumar Sharma said Chief Minister Bansi Lal was not concerned about their demands.

Pensioners8217; demands
On the call of the Punjab State Pensioners8217; Confederation, the government and semi-government pensioners of the state held a rally today to press their demands.

The pensioners staged a dharna at the Bridge Market in Sector 17 and later marched to the Chandigarh Housing Board Chowk, raising slogans against the state government.

The demands of the pensioners include the merger of 97 per cent dearness relief as on July 1, 1993 with their basic pension; grant of benefit of travel concession to the family of pensioners; and 50 per cent concession in bus fare in the vehicles of state transport.

Ajit Singh Bagri, general secretary of the confederation spoke of the unkept promises by the government.

Addressing the gathering at the CHB chowk, he said that Parkash Singh Badal had earlier promised a quot;Maharaja Ranjit Singhquot; regime in the state. quot;But he even failed to arrange for a meeting to negotiate on our demands,quot; he said.
