Harassed woman attempts suicide

CHANDIGARH, May 22: A resident of Sector 37, Amita, 30, reportedly poured kerosene over herself and set herself afire this morning. She was rushed to the PGI, with 80 per cent burns.

A senior police official said the woman stated in her statement made before the magistrate that she had been harrased by her husband owing to which she tried to kill herself. He, however, added that inquiries revealed the woman was divorced and also childless, owing to which she attempted suicide. She is currently admitted to the PGI and her condition is stated to be serious.
