Haier Telecom, a joint venture between China-based Haier Group and India’s Nescomed Technologies, is looking at bundling their CDMA mobiles with Reliance connections.
The company now provides CDMA handsets bundled with a Tata connection.
A tie-up with Reliance will further help the company to expand its market share, COO Praveen Valecha said.
“We’ve sent a proposal to Airtel and Hutch too, to bundle our GSM handsets with their connections. They’re evaluating our proposal,” Valecha told The Indian Express.
Haier is the second largest player in the CDMA space, LG being the largest.
In the GSM space, the company stands among the top five players, with sales of 30,000-35,000 handsets per month.
The telecom company will also set up a software development centre in Gurgaon by September this year.
“Software is the soul of a mobile phone. “This centre will enable Haier to customise products for the Indian market and to speed up their launch. For instance, if we want to incorporate Indian languages on mobiles, the centre will help us develop the software,” said Valecha.
The handsets are currently sourced from Haier’s China facility, but the company is looking at manufacturing locally.
