The family of slain PWD engineer Manoj Kumar Gupta has refused to accept Rs 5-lakh compensation announced by the state government.
8220;Can you compensate for a life? My father was invaluable for us and no money can make up for our loss. All we seek is justice. People responsible for my father8217;s death should be punished,8221; Gupta8217;s son Prateesh Pranjal said on Tuesday.
Asked about the state government8217;s handling of the investigation, he said it was 8220;satisfactory so far8221;. As for the family8217;s initial demand for a CBI inquiry, he said: 8220;If the police failed to work out the case, we will ask for a CBI probe.8221;
On Tuesday, Prateesh visited his father8217;s Gail Vihar residence for the first time after his murder. The police had asked somebody from the family to be at the house because a forensic team was visiting the place.
8220;At the house, when I was walking right behind the forensic team officials, I felt a chill run down my spine. I could hear my father8217;s cries for help, his repeated requests for mercy and felt the torture he must have gone through,8221; said Prateesh.
Things lying scattered in the drawing room and other parts of the house were a reminder of what must have happened on the night of December 23.
Prateesh referred to Bahujan Samaj Party MLA Shekhar Tiwari, who has been arrested for Gupta8217;s death, as 8220;an alcoholic8221;. He hoped the other accused, including 8220;Bhatia8221;, will be arrested soon.
Prateesh said his family will like the trials to be shifted to Lucknow or Lakhimpur Kheri. 8220;We are discussing the matter,8221; he added.
