Ahead of the December Assembly polls, the Modi Government has sought to strengthen the state Intelligence unit by increasing the number of IPS officers. The latest round of transfers and promotions, affected by the Home Department on Saturday, has increased the number of IPS officers in the intelligence unit from five to seven.
While P P Pandey takes over from Sudhir Sinha as ADGP (Intelligence) on promotion, incumbent Deputy Inspectors General (DIGs) Sanjay Shrivastava and A K Sharma have been made Inspector Generals. S G Bhati stays as DIG, while J K Bhatt joins him as DIG on promotion.
“This does add to the information gathering and processing capacity of the state intelligence. Since the unit is charged with the collection of political intelligence, it is going to help the Government,” said a top police officer.
However, Minister of State for Home Amit Shah said: “This is a routine reshuffle.. there were no other intentions”.
