GANDHINAGAR, JAN 2: The Gujarat Government has submitted a detailed report to Governor Anshuman Singh on the recent attacks on Christians and their religious and educational institutions in Dangs and other places in South Gujarat. The Governor had sought a detailed report from the Government a couple of days ago.

Authoritative sources in the Secretariat told The Indian Express that after studying the report, the Governor was likely to apprise the Centre of the situation arising out of the recent violence in parts of South Gujarat. In fact, Singh had summoned ACS Home V V Ramsubbarao to the Raj Bhavan two days ago to discuss the law and order situation in the state, the sources revealed.

A delegation comprising representatives from the National Council of Churches of India NCCI also called on the Governor this evening and handed over a memorandum demanding, among other things, full protection to the lives and property of Christians in the state and a stop forthwith to the anti-Christian propagandabeing unleashed by certain Hindu communal organisations and Gujarati dailies.

Bishop Vinodkumar Malaviya of the CNI church, Gujarat, said the Governor8217;s response to the delegation was positive and 8220;We are satisfied with the discussion we had with him.8221; The delegation comprised NCCI president Rajratnam, vice-president Oliver, general secretary I P Joseph, Bishop Vinod Peter, the moderator of the Church of North India, besides Bishop Malaviya and Bishop S Fernandes.

Bishop Malaviya said that after calling on the Governor, an eight-member team of the NCCI left for Ahwa, the district headquarters of the Dangs, to take stock of the situation there.
