Gujarat cops give clean chit

With the exception of the slain crew of the fishing boat Kuber, the Gujarat police have so far ruled out the involvement of any Porbandar fishermen in the Mumbai terror attack. A senior police officer also denied reports of the hijacked Kuber coming back to Porbandar before heading to Mumbai.

However, sources say that the boat did berth in Diu enroute to Mumbai. The slain captain of Kuber Amarsinh Solanki hailed from a village near Diu and the chances of the boat stopping there cannot be ruled out, they said. Moreover, the coordinates of the Global Positioning System recovered from the boat were set for Diu.

Vinod Masani, who had the power of attorney to run the boats and Hira Masani the owner of the boats Maa and Kaveri have also been questioned by the police. The Gujarat Police has also questioned some other boat owners and fishermen known for going near the International Marine Boundary Line IMBL.
