DHAKA, Aug 14: Bangladesh on Thursday felicitated Pakistan on its 50th Independence Day but under the surface, anger persists over Islamabad’s repressive actions in what was previously East Pakistan.

Statements from Bangladeshi leaders kept to diplomatic niceties, but the official media has been reminding Bengalis of the events of by-gone decades. However Pakistani and Indian celebrations are far from being shared by Dhaka, which is marking the anniversary of the August 15, 1975 assassination of Bangladesh’s founder Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
