Mango Nation, an NGO working for the environment, flagged off the first of their flea market at the Lodi Garden restaurant that saw a mix of designer labels and upcoming brands sharing space. With 8216;Goa8217; as the theme, the open market sought to bring to Delhi the popular Anjuna flea market of Goa with its thatched-roofed kiosks that resembled tiny beach-side shacks. Adding to the Goan appeal was a live Goan band that belted out popular reggae and pop numbers.

The market was a delight for accessory lovers with handbags in bright yellows, hot pink and turquoise on offer by Mint and innovatively designed shoes by Swati Modo. JJ Valaya Magic Foundation8217;s kiosk invited a lot of attention with its quirky pet-toys and colourful T-shirts. Jewellery, candles and collector8217;s items such as gold and silver plated handpicked flowers were on display. 8220;The response has been amazing and in the past hour, we have already sold five bags,8221; said Sheena Matharu, designer, Mint.

Planned as a monthly event, the flea market will be hosted with a special theme, working around music, art and food promotions. Vendors have to pay between Rs 6000-10,000 for a stall space. 8220;The money collected from the stall prices will help in expanding our NGO8217; s initiative of planting more trees in the city,8221; says Monica Batra of Mango Nation. Way to go.
