Against the backdrop of resentment over the sealing drive ahead of Assembly elections in Delhi later this year, the Centre has decided to amend the Master Plan for the national capital in a month’s time.
“The provisions of the MPD 2021 had already provided relief to more than 95 per cent people facing the sealing axe and the government is further committed to provide relief to the people who had been left out for some reason or the other by moving specific amendments in the Master Plan,” Minister of State for Urban Development Ajay Maken said in New Delhi on Tuesday.
The process of these amendments had started and they would be notified in about a month’s time after completion of necessary procedure, he said.
Elaborating further upon the amendments that would provide relief, Maken said the number of shops measuring 20 sq metres on the ground floor, confusion regarding which was prevalent will be fixed according to the number of dwelling units permissible on the plot size, subject to a maximum of four.
He said registration of shops or commercial establishments in special area that includes walled city, Chandni Chowk, Karol bagh, Pahar Ganj, and Sadar Bazar which had not taken place due to miscommunication and misunderstanding created by MCD, will be resumed for a period of 90 days without any penalty.
A survey for establishing the extent of commercial use for notification as mixed use would be carried out in urbanised villages, regularised unauthorised colonies where it has not been done earlier.
Survey would be done in a period of six months from the day of amendment, Maken said.
